1008 Dreams & Solutions: Running

(This is an unedited draft of a book with a working title “1008 Dreams & Solutions”)
DREAM: Writing while Richard is running

In the dream I was sitting by a tree, with a few others, taking notes about a fitness program. We were at a track and field meet in huge cross country landscape through forest and field. I felt really great.

tree – growth (on a bigger scale than herbs?)…last time I dreamed of a tree was in the saying good bye to Jonathon dream when I was putting a big tree by the door of the home I was house-sitting in. This tree was outside, and I was working, and I was with co-workers in a relationship of mutual respect.
taking notes – writing what is
fitness program – a fitness program is a system for health and well-being
track & field – running for long distance is about endurance
forest – ? companionship?
It’s a good feeling dream. It means for me to remember something I’ve done well in the past and do it again now.
So I ask myself: what is happening in the dream that is working well? I’m on task individually; I’m getting along with others collectively; and we are engaged in a larger experience including those outside of our immediate circle/realm.
I am writing notes so I don’t know if this is to be taken literally or metaphorically but I am going to look metaphorically first.
The act of taking notes is about listening attentively, observing acutely, and then putting to memory the details of the observation. I do this naturally.
I want to take it one step deeper.
This dream is reminding me of how I can listen and write word for word what a person is saying as they say it. It’s a way of writing that is really outside of myself opposed to when I am very silent and listening to the inner voice in which case I also surrender and then write word for word what I am hearing as well but my ears are turned inwards.
This is the key!
In going forward the dream wants me to know to be listening closely to others and be in the mode of surrender and creation.
What came to mind as I wrote that last line was an answer to a question I had about moving through the fog at work. When I am in the mode of carefully listening and observing because I am going to write something down (to create an article, a report, or whatever) I am in a very different space than when I am not preparing to write something down. When I am in the mode of listening to record I feel very safe and protected and when I record it later and share it I feel as though I am participating in a great team effort at an international  track and field meet.
Where in my life TODAY is it important to be in that space of surrender, listening, observing?
When I am in the mode of collecting information and data for an article/newspaper I travel through life so differently.
What is the biggest issue facing me today?
So many things people want from me and not enough time to do them all and not clear what the priority is to move forward in the direction I want to go in for the long run.
The after school program is not moving forward because of a 7 year old boy who only wants to fight with everyone all the time every day. It’s stopped most of my creativity because I am just always taking action to prevent his outbursts and protect the young ones who he will kick and hit and protect the older ones who he will verbally attack like crazy.
What I want to be doing is a great, active, engaging program but when I introduce and implement something he also attacks the program and me so then I have to protect myself too. So I stopped being creative to prevent him from attacking me and then I started thinking about creating a newsletter about the program.
SOOOOO…I actually think I need to get out of newsletter-head and get into the space of listening, observing, and creating WITHIN the program. Not to be afraid of him. When I think of doing that I hit a wall. If I bring in an activity he will attack it…what do I do next?
I think sports is the answer. The only time I see them all get along easily is when they are playing tag or soccer,  It’s the only time the war is over and they laugh and like one another.
I will create a month long sports after school program. See how it goes and evaluate.
That is what I will do.
I had a running dream on the same day.  When I had the dream I just kept going into that space all day long in my mind.
Update: I created a program and then won a region-wide award for quality programming!

1008 Dreams & Solutions: Good at Cleaning Up

(This is an unedited section of  “1008 Dreams & Solutions.” I’m using an agile method of publishing. Volunteers interesting in editing, please contact rperrydreamwork@gmail.com. )
Fall 2014
I just dreamed I was in a place, like a warehouse but it was set up like a school and there were piles of clutter in the desks and corners, etc. We had to clean it up before going somewhere. Some people were goofing off and it bothered me that they didn’t get cleaning. I was waiting for them to take action but they didn’t so finally I just started cleaning myself.
I started dumping all the clutter, toys, and bits into the garbage. I found food left from a long time ago, dumped it out. Found an old machine that didn’t work. At one point someone asked me to teach people a song. Eventually some others joined in the cleaning – one woman, who I went to kindergarten with came up to me and I showed her my broken phone and that I lost my other one. She listened closely and heard ticking and went over to it and collected it and gave it to me. I was happy to have it back.

This is a metaphor for what you have been doing over the past couple of years.  You have been cleaning out the old stuff so that you can get so some place new.  This dream shows you that you are good at the cleaning up process which you can only do yourself.   It is something that is constant, but means that you are ready to go forward.

What is the Purpose of Dreamwork the Way We Do It?

“The idea is to take the work beyond what people think of as dream interpretation to being more solution-oriented and as a way to delve deeper into the transformation experience.   The main thing that people need to shift to is that their lives can be taken in a positive direction when they understand that the dream doesn’t come from them, but it is related to them and comes through them.    It is such a powerful shift, but it takes submitting to another Will. ” (Richard Hastings)

Prisoner Dreams: How To Release Yourself From Negativity

Recently someone shared a dream with me which has a meaningful cultural message for everyone.

I dreamt I was at a concert and the building caught on fire we started to evacuate but security wouldn’t let us leave and they held us hostage. Me and a couple other guys managed to get away from the main population but some chick wouldn’t shut up she eventually got us caught then we were put to work as prisoners.

Concert – a public space for music & uplifting the soul

Fire – Inspiration

Security – more on this later

Being held hostage – being made to feel powerless

Main Population – cultural norms

“Some chick” – female, feminine qualities or virtues

prisoners – stuck in negatives, stuck in negative emotions

This dream reveals anger towards the female who did something which lead to negative experience for the dreamer.

Anger is a fiery emotion.

In the dream, it burns up the concert which is where the dreamer went to hoping to feel better & be uplifted.

The dreamer & his friends got away from the fire & the main population but they couldn’t get away from the chick.

Some women use sly methods to try to take ownership of the men in their lives as if they are their prisoner, their possession. It can come from a place of jealousy, anger or fear or any host of negative feelings which the woman has left over from experiences in childhood or adolescence when they were not allowed to develop their positive qualities and they learned to be manipulative instead in order to get their way.

Sometimes women use sex as the lure, or sometimes it’s their words or their tone of voice or any number of things which they’ve learned can really hook men. Once they have their man hooked it can be really hard for him to release himself, usually because he will feel bad for it appearing as if he’s abandoned her.

But in fact, he is not abandoning her, he is abandoning the trap. He has to do what is right for him. It might be the only way she would wake up to what she’s doing that is so hurtful for so many.

The woman in the dream, who is not named so it means it is a cultural pattern, in other words it could be any woman, is only thinking of herself. That’s why she gets the men in trouble.

The dreamer shows he has some anger about this type of behaviour in women because even though he has respect for women in real life, he calls her “some chick” when describing her in the dream.

“Some chick” is a good way to say, “some thoughtless, careless, inconsiderate & ignorant woman” wouldn’t be quite.

In the dream, the chick wouldn’t shut up.

And it got them into prison.

So what to do with a negative dream like this?

The dreamer could become like a positive version of the chick. He can go about his day and never shut up but instead of saying negatives he can say positives.

When we spend our time looking for positives we find them. It can be in noticing when someone is helpful, caring, kind or generous and then acknowledging it. Feeling gratitude is also a great way to elevate into a positive space.

Going to a concert might have worked in the past, in adolescence, but it doesn’t work anymore.

This dream is calling the dreamer to be more like some chick who just can’t shut up about how good life is now.

Finding positives and talking about them is one of the best ways to break free from the main population which is by-and-large just going along with things unconsciously and not realizing the main cultural issues which make people feel individually inprisoned. It is one of the best ways to help others. It is one of the best ways to be free to live life, think independently and act with enthusiasm towards new opportunities that exist every day.

1008 Dreams & Solutions: Re-frame the Mundane

(This is an unedited version of a book with a working title “1008 Dream Interpretations & Solutions.” It has mistakes in grammar and spelling. Summer 2014ish

In the dream I was in a market-like setting. There was a little bit of drama going on somehow. Like one friend not wanting to talk to another friend and my being in the middle somehow trying to encourage one or the other to let it go. One friend had a white shirt on. She reminded me of S.W.

Then I went to this Baha’i Temple of sorts where there was a conference. I was just checking things out and wandering around and I saw a large pyramid with many ancient symbols and hieroglyphs, on it carved into the stone in the back wall. The beautiful lighting made parts of it seem to glow.
I got really excited and went over to explore more, in complete awe and amazement. I asked myself why I didn’t see these before because I had been to this building before and I realized that I had seen them before but had become scared so I left. I had no fear now just love and I ran my fingers in the engraving tracing the symbols and contemplating their significance.
– market – place of trade, feeling good, getting things done, favourite place
– drama – people caught in a web of negativity and not counting my opinion as valid, felt invisible
– S.W. – someone who was a big part of my life in childhood but not significant in adulthood
– Baha’i Temple – temples are raised when the conditions are ready for them, they hold the space for people of all backgrounds to come together to worship, study, and serve, a central point of community life in future civilization
– pyramid & hieroglyphs – ancient mystery, knowledge, symbols, communication
– A pyramid in a Baha’i Temple is like the coming together of the Ancient and the Eternal, the past and the future into the moment of hte present.
The beauty and magesty of the pyramid overshadows the first part of the dream and it’s hard to recall it or focus on it as it seems so mundane.
in positive dreams they don’t need to be flipped…just recognize the quality and use it…so this is a quality about when i am in the market-place I feel like I am in my space. when i’m in my space i can clearly see two sides of a situation and know what to say to encourage unity and cooperation. even though it somewhat bores me to participate in that way I can do it and then afterwards like to discover things which fascinate me, like pyramids and symbols.
That is like how i am in waking life…i love exploring mysteries and working with symbols and feel so bored at work when i’m confided to what feels like just babysitting. i’m also in the middle of several “conversations” and do feel like I wish people would get on with it.
The dream is showing me that feeling bored about it actually takes me away from it but if I stay in space of curiousity and love then I can have patience when others are stuck in a drama.
where in my life TODAY do i have an issue with being in the middle of something and feeling bored about it?
between the LSA and some individuals from the past –> boredom makes me feel like a ping-pong between them which is draining…if I replace this with curiousity and love it would look really different.
What can I do today to bring curiousity and love to the mundane tasks?
Richard replies: You can re-frame the mundane.  Mundane means that you put a judgment on it.   That is how you relate back to the anger in the previous times.
